Indian cricket team won the Test series 2-0 against Windies quite comprehensively. The hosts were ruthless over the visitors and didn’t even give a sniff. The likes of Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant grabbed the opportunities with both hands. The skipper Virat Kohli felt good about the contributions of the youngsters very early in their careers.
Shaw scored a hundred on debut and then followed it up with 70 and 33* in the second Test. For his magnificent beginning in Test cricket, he was awarded the Man of the Series. Pant too took full toll of the chances and scored 2 half-centuries in 2 innings. Virat Kohli expressed his joy on the emergence of these players.
“I know the conditions were not as challenging, but in Test cricket, the first and most important thing is confidence and understanding that you can score runs at this level. From that point of view, [I am] very happy that these guys have taken their chances so well,” said Kohli as quoted by Mid-day.
KL Rahul’s indifferent form still a worry
Amongst all the positives, there still lies a worry for India. KL Rahul had a torrid time in the series where he could score 0 and 4 in the first 2 innings respectively. However, the opener scored an unbeaten 33 in the second innings in Hyderabad in India’s pursuit of 72. Despite KL’s dodgy form, Virat Kohli is confident that he will correct his mistakes.
“I am sure KL will look at his errors and look to rectify them. There is no doubt about his attitude and how he goes about his game. He is very positive and is someone who also appreciates people telling him his fault which is a good quality. It’s good he spent some time at the crease, stayed not out and looked more composed than the first two innings. I’m sure he would like to build on that,” added the skipper.
