The latest ICC Test rankings have brought both good and challenging news for Indian cricket fans. Virat Kohli, the former India skipper, has surged into the top 10 rankings after a stellar performance in the Centurion Test against South Africa. On the flip side, India’s current captain, Rohit Sharma, has dropped out of the top 10 for the first time in recent months.
Kohli’s Resurgence
Virat Kohli’s impressive 76 in the second innings of the Centurion Test, coupled with a solid 38 in the first innings, propelled him up the rankings by four places. This ascent marks his return to the top 10 after more than a year, signaling a resurgence in his Test form.
Sharma’s Slide
In contrast, Rohit Sharma’s recent batting struggles have seen him slip down the rankings by four places. His scores of 5 and 0 in the last Test match have resulted in his current 14th position, with 719 rating points.
Other Movers
The Centurion Test also brought positive movements for other players. KL Rahul, the centurion in the same match, jumped an impressive 11 places to secure the 51st position in the rankings. South Africa’s Dean Elgar also made a significant leap of 19 places, entering the top 20 and currently occupying the 17th position.
Overall Rankings
In the overall rankings, Kane Williamson retains his top position among batters, followed by Joe Root and Steve Smith. Notably, Daryl Mitchell has climbed to the fourth position, causing shifts in the rankings for Usman Khawaja, Babar Azam, and Travis Head, who now occupy the 5th, 6th, and 10th positions, respectively.
Bowling Standings
In the bowling department, there have been minimal changes in the top 10. Ravichandran Ashwin maintains his lead with 872 rating points, with Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah also representing India in the top 10 at the 4th and 5th positions, respectively. Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins hold the second and third spots, with Cummins potentially poised to climb higher after a strong performance in the ongoing Sydney Test against Pakistan.
