“Virat has hinted” AB de Villiers Gets the Nod from Virat Kohli for Special IPL Role

The upcoming IPL 2024 is set to kick off early due to the T20 World Cup this year. The opening clash is slated between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, promising an exciting start to the tournament. Before that, AB de Villiers talked about his role in an upcoming edition of  IPL. 

AB de Villiers on His Upcoming Role:

Former South African batsman, AB de Villiers, has suggested his potential involvement with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) camp in the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The cricketing legend, who spent a decade playing for RCB, expressed openness to a coaching role with the franchise. AB de Villiers’ potential contribution to RCB, either as a coach or in another capacity, adds an intriguing subplot to the team’s dynamics for the upcoming IPL season.

Sharing on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers mentioned that Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket star, has proposed his assistance for ABD to support the team’s icon and some of the batsmen before or during the tournament. He said, “Nothing confirmed yet, Virat has hinted that he might want me to come over and spend a bit of time with him and some of the batters.”

Later he added, “That call will come from Andy Flower, Faf, and the team. For now, I’m just going to be in Mumbai for the first few weeks of the IPL. I’m doing a bit of commentating.”

ABD in IPL: 

He stands among the premier foreign batsmen to grace the IPL, leaving an indelible mark with his exceptional performances. Commencing his IPL journey with the Delhi Daredevils, he later shifted to the Bengaluru franchise, solidifying his reputation. Accumulating 5162 runs in 184 matches at an average of 39.71 and an impressive strike rate of 151.69, he holds the sixth-highest run tally in the tournament and is the second-highest among foreign players.

His standout season occurred in 2016, amassing 687 runs, although overshadowed by Kohli’s record-breaking 973 runs that year. Despite reaching the finals, the franchise remains determined to secure its maiden IPL title.
