Trent Boult Becomes the Second Highest Wicket Taker in Powerplay with 62 Wickets

The cricket fans of India enjoyed a thrilling Qualifier 2 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals. The match was exciting as both teams gave their best to secure a spot in the final. But the match ended on a very disappointing note for the Rajasthan Royals as they faced a defeat of 36 runs. But Trent Boult created a new record. He becomes the second-highest wicket-taker in Powerplay.

After having an exciting group stage, Rajasthan Royals locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Sunrisers Hyderabad came to the Qualifier after facing a defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 1. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals came to this match after defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the eliminator. However, Rajasthan Royals faced a heartbreaking defeat but Trent Boult made an interesting record. 

In the last match, Trent Boult scalped three crucial wickets of Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, and Aiden Markram. At the end of his spell, he conceded 45 runs and secured 3 wickets with an economy rate of 11.25. With that, he scored a unique bowling record. He has become the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL history by picking 62 wickets in powerplay. 

The first position of this record is holding by Bhuvneswar Kumar. He has taken 71 wickets in powerplay. Sandeep Sharma is holding the third position with 59 wickets. Deepak Hooda and Umesh Yadav took 58 wickets each. Ishant Sharma has taken 57 wickets in the powerplay.

Rajasthan’s Heartbreaking Defeat:

After winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson chose to field. Trent Boult struck early, removing Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi in successive overs. Aiden Markram fell to Boult’s delivery too. RR bowlers, notably Sandeep Sharma and Avesh Khan, kept up the pressure. Travis Head was dismissed by Sandeep Sharma, while Avesh Khan claimed two wickets in two balls. Despite Heinrich Klaasen’s fifty, SRH were limited to 175 runs, with Boult and Khan securing three wickets each.

Rajasthan Royals’ journey came to an end in the Qualifier 2, a major disappointment for the team. Despite a strong bowling performance initially, they faltered in the second innings. Early dismissals of Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Sanju Samson set the tone. Although Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel fought back with notable innings, including a 56-run effort from Jurel, RR fell short, managing only 139/7 in 20 overs and suffering a 36-run defeat.
