Travis Head Not Playing In The First T20I series Against India After A Hectic World Cup Campaign

After the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup, while some teams have already parted their ways back home, India and Australian players stayed back and moved to Visakhapatnam ahead of a 5-match T20I series to be held at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. After playing brilliantly against India in the World Cup final on Sunday in Ahmedabad, which led the Aussies to their sixth World Cup victory, Travis Head was entitled to the Player of the Match award and lauded enormously for a powerful knock.

Resting senior players

After a hectic schedule in the World Cup, the Australian management has decided to rest those players who have contributed significantly to Australia’s World Cup campaign. T20I series stand-in captain Matthew Wade remarked that this was necessary in order to help players to cope with their physical and mental health. He also said that Travis and other players will be given time to recover from a hectic World Cup campaign and that they will not be put under pressure to play the first match of the T20I series against India.

He reckoned that some of the Australian players who were a part of the team in the World Cup won’t be playing in the series against India. It is imperative to keep them fresh-minded after the just concluded mega tournament, Matthew remarked. “We have not got so many injury concerns as certain. We are checking with the guys who played in the World Cup. We are trying to make sure that they are ready to go mentally and physically. So, there will be a few of those guys who will definitely miss out tomorrow just to get themselves up and about for the next four games. Apart from the physical and mental fatigue, we have a full squad to pick from,” he added.

About Travis Head

During the pre-match conference, Wade spoke about whether Travis will play in the first match or not remarking “We will have a chat with him and see how he is feeling. There won’t be any pressure from us for him to play the first T20I, but he will definitely feature throughout the series. The T20 World Cup is not that far away and I think we have got 10 or 11 games before the battle kicks off again.” Well now it comes as Travis Head is not playing against India in the first match.
