TATA IPL 2023: Another setback for RCB, David Willey ruled out due to injury

Amidst the ongoing 2023 season of the TATA Indian Premier League, Royal Challengers Bangalore have once again been hit by an injury scare. England all-rounder David Willey has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 due to a fractured toe and adductor strain. The English cricketer was bought by the RCB franchise during the 2022 auction for a price of Rs. 2 Crores. Willey played 4 games for the franchise this season and took 3 wickets at an economy rate of 7 runs per over. He also scored 35 runs in 3 innings.

RCB stand by Willey

The news of Willey’s injury comes as a big blow for the RCB team, which is currently placed in the 6th spot of the points table. The all-rounder’s absence will be felt in both batting and bowling departments as he had been a key player for the team in the ongoing season.

RCB confirmed the news ahead of their game against the Lucknow Super Giants on Monday. In a statement made on Twitter, the franchise said, “David Willey has been ruled out of #IPL2023 due to fractured toe and adductor strain. Willey, you were brilliant throughout! We stand by your side as you rest, recover and return stronger than ever, mate.”

RCB’s injury scare

Willey’s injury is a setback for the RCB team, which has already lost the services of several players including Rajat Patidar, Will Jacks, Reece Topley, and Josh Hazlewood. Josh Hazlewood is however recovering and will soon be joining the team. Meanwhile, the team will have to rely on its other overseas players to step up and fill the void left by Willey’s absence.

RCB will now have to reassess their team composition and strategy for the remaining matches of the IPL. They have already named Kedar Jadhav as a replacement for the injured David Willey and hope that he makes the team’s middle order stronger.
