In a significant development, former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has revealed his plans to make a competitive return to cricket through the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The seasoned batter, who opted out of the World Cup and is currently unavailable for the Test series against New Zealand, announced this decision following a meeting with Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan.
Tamim, aged 34, disclosed his intentions during an impromptu media briefing at his residence, shedding light on the tumultuous period he experienced in Bangladesh cricket. His absence from the World Cup was attributed to his reluctance to be part of what he referred to as the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s ‘dirty game.’ This decision was preceded by a series of events, including Tamim’s retirement, subsequent return, resignation as captain, and an apparent rejection of a middle-order role offered to him.
The media briefing served as a platform for Tamim to clarify his stance. “After the World Cup, I felt that there should be a decision about my international future. Throughout my career, I have always kept myself away from indecision,” he explained, expressing his commitment to transparent communication.
