Sri Lanka Bolsters World Cup Squad With Angelo Matthews and Dushmantha Chameera’s Inclusion as Travelling Reserves

The World Cup 2023 is a new record book. Records have been in the making since the start. All teams are giving their best. They are giving their best to prove them the best. Just not players, as a team they are making records. In the first match of South Africa, they made the highest World Cup record. But Injury is a big concern in this big tournament. This is a setback for any team. Currently, Sri Lanka is dealing with this. Their star players have been ruled out of the team.

Injury and substitute:

Sri Lanka’s campaign is hammered by big injuries. Injuries are hitting the Sri Lankan squad before the World Cup. Their star bowler Wanindu Hasaranga was ruled out before the World Cup due to injury. In the midway, captain Dasun Shanaka has been ruled out because of a quadriceps tear. Chamika Karunaratne has been replaced in the team.

The other two changes are going to be done by the team. Veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Matthews and pacer Dushmantha Chameera were called into the World Cup squad. They are set to join the squad ahead of their next match. Young bowler Pathirana also missed the last game due to a shoulder injury. Injury is a big factor in the tournament for Sri Lanka.

On social media, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board posted a statement. They wrote, “ Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that Angelo Mathews and Dushmantha Chameera will join the team in India as traveling reserves.”

Sri Lanka’s condition in the tournament:

Sri Lanka is in a very disappointing situation. They met South Africa in their first match. South Africa scored the highest total in the World Cup. it was a thrilling match. Sri Lanka lost the match by 102 runs. It was the start.

In the second match, Sri Lanka met Pakistan. In that match, Sri Lanka performed well. Nissanka scored a half-century. Kusal Mendis scored 122 runs in 77 balls. Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 108 runs in 89 runs. They scored 344/9 in 50 overs. It was a good total. But the bowling department was disappointing. They let Pakistan win the match. Pakistan won the match by 6 wickets.

In the third match, Sri Lanka met Australia. While batting first, Sri Lanka got all out in 209 runs. Australia performed very well. They won the match by 5 wickets. Mitchell Marsh scored a half-century. Josh Inglis scored 58 runs in 59 runs. Australia won the match by 5 wickets.

The team is in a dicey situation. They lost all three matches till now. They have to win the rest of the matches if they want to qualify for the semi-final. This is not an easy thing. The absence of Dasun Shanaka will be a factor. But the substitutes are also good. They are also responsible. Sri Lanka can survive if they play good cricket in the remaining matches.
