A new face is set to lead the Indian cricket team from the sidelines as former Saurashtra veteran and India A head coach, Sitansu Kotak, takes on the role of head coach for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland. With head coach Rahul Dravid and his core coaching staff opting for a well-deserved rest, Kotak will step in to guide the team during the three T20Is scheduled from August 18 to 23.

The decision to rest Rahul Dravid, along with batting coach Vikram Rathour and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, stems from a strategic approach to ensure the team’s overall preparedness for crucial tournaments on the horizon, including the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup later in the year. This move highlights the team management’s emphasis on maintaining a balanced workload and optimizing their coaching resources to tackle the demanding cricket calendar.Â
Initially, it was anticipated that the former legendary Indian batter and head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), VVS Laxman, would step in as the interim head coach, a role he successfully fulfilled last year against Ireland. However, Laxman’s commitments to the Emerging camp in Bengaluru have led him to remain in India, creating an opportunity for Sitanshu Kotak to take the reins.Â

Kotak, who currently serves as the batting coach at the NCA, brings with him a wealth of experience and an intimate understanding of the Indian cricketing landscape. Having held the position of India A head coach for a substantial period, he is well-acquainted with the dynamics of guiding emerging talents towards their full potential. His familiarity with the team’s structure and ethos is expected to aid a seamless transition as he temporarily takes charge of the senior squad.Â
