Siraj released from India’s squad for the Second Test against England

Fast Bowler Mohd. Siraj has been released from India’s squad for the Second Test against England. 

Mohd. Siraj has been released from the India squad for the second Test against England in Vizag. The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and the amount of cricket he has played in recent times. He will be available for selection for the third Test in Rajkot. Avesh Khan has re-joined the team for the 2nd Test.” A BCCI release said. 

Fellow fast bowler Avesh Khan has been added to the squad for the match. The decision to rest Siraj was taken by the team management keeping in mind the amount of cricket that the fast bowler has played in the last six months. 

The Opportunity

Siraj’s exclusion has presented an opportunity for pacer Mukesh Kumar who made his debut against West Indies in all three formats last year and has had an impressive start to his Test career. The right-arm seamer has picked up six wickets in three matches at an average of 18.17 and strike rate of 35.33 with best bowling figures of 2-0 in an innings.

The Test

India is trailing 1-0 in the five-match series having lost the first match by 28 runs. The Rohit Sharma-led side will look to make a strong comeback in the series with WTC points also up for grabs.

The Test match is also a challenge for Rohit Sharma as a captain as he will be without the services of experienced players like Jadeja and Rahul both of whom have been ruled out of the Test match due to injuries
