Siraj Leads the Charge: RCB Assistant Coach Adam Griffith Praises Pacer’s Crucial Role in Win Over GT

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) camp is buzzing after their thrilling four-wicket victory against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Assistant coach Adam Griffith took the opportunity to commend the performance of star Indian seamer Mohammd Siraj, highlighting his impact on the team.

A Hard-Fought Victory: RCB Overcomes Middle-Order Wobble

The match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was a nail-biter. Despite a powerful opening partnership between skipper Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli, RCB faced a scare in the middle overs as they lost quick wickets. However, they managed to hold their nerve and secure a crucial victory.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Griffith acknowledged the team’s recent struggles, particularly in the powerplay overs. “The start of the tournament was not that great, especially in the powerplay,” he admitted. “That is something we really focused on. Recently we made sure that we really worked hard to get better starts for the group. Tonight, it was one of the better ones and it was good to see the hard work come off.”

Siraj: The Leader of the Pack

Griffith reserved special praise for Mohammad Siraj, calling him “the leader of our group.” He elaborated, “Siraj is our most experienced bowler especially among the Indian quicks and with our international guys as well. Having him up and running and bowling well, but not only that, it’s his body language, his aggression, him trying to get wickets, he is such an important part of what we do.”

Earlier, RCB elected to field and restricted GT to a modest total of 147 runs in 19.3 overs. After a shaky start at 19/3, GT threatened a comeback thanks to a 61-run partnership between Shahrukh Khan and David Miller. However, RCB bowlers kept chipping away at the wickets, with Siraj (2/29), Yash Dayal (2/21), and Vijaykumar Vyshak (2/23) leading the attack.

RCB Upward Trajectory: Can They Maintain Momentum?

In reply, RCB got off to a flying start with a 92-run opening partnership between Faf du Plessis (64 runs) and Virat Kohli (42 runs). However, a brilliant spell from Joshua Little (4/45) and Noor Ahmed (2/23) saw RCB lose their way in the middle overs. Fortunately, Dinesh Karthik (21* runs) and Swapnil Singh (15* runs) held their nerve and guided the team to a comfortable victory with 38 balls to spare.

This win propels RCB to the seventh position in the points table, reigniting their playoff hopes. With improved starts and strong bowling performances, particularly from Siraj, RCB seems to be finding its rhythm. The challenge for the team will be to maintain this momentum and secure a string of victories in the remaining matches.
