Shivam Dube, the explosive left-handed all-rounder, played a pivotal role in propelling the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a formidable total of 210 runs in the first innings of Match 39 of IPL 2024 against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Dube Decimates LSG Bowling Attack
Dube’s innings was a display of power hitting, as he took the LSG bowling attack by storm. The slower ball tactics employed by LSG proved ineffective against Dube’s aggressive batting. He repeatedly dispatched deliveries over the deep mid-wicket boundary, much to the delight of the Chennai crowd.
“Definitely enjoyed it,” Dube remarked during the mid-innings show, highlighting his satisfaction with his performance. “The support from the crowd is amazing,” he continued. “We love to play in Chennai. All grounds are like home grounds but this is what pushes me a little more.”
Dube and Gaikwad’s Partnership Takes CSK to 200+
Dube’s knock of 66 off just 27 balls came at a crucial juncture after CSK lost early wickets, including Ruturaj Gaikwad’s opening partner, Ajinkya Rahane, and experienced campaigner Daryl Mitchell, who came in at 3. However, Gaikwad himself played a magnificent innings, scoring his second IPL century.
“Rutu needed one over to recover after playing for a long time so I decided to take the bowler on,” said Dube, explaining his decision to take on the bowling after Gaikwad settled in.
The left-hander was effusive in his praise for Gaikwad’s knock. “We have scored a lot of runs, we are 10-15 runs above par,” Dube stated. “[We] definitely need to bowl well but we have got 10 runs more. Enjoyed a lot when Rutu bats, his class is on a different level,” he concluded.
With a strong total on the board, CSK will be confident of defending it against LSG. Dube’s knock and Gaikwad’s century have provided them with a significant advantage. The match promises to be a thrilling encounter as LSG look to chase down the target and secure a crucial victory.
