Bangladesh has named Najmul Hossain Shanto as captain for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to begin on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies.
Following their 4-1 series win against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh announced their squad, which includes the experienced Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib returned to the T20I format for Bangladesh after nearly a year and made a significant impact, taking a four-wicket haul in the 4th T20I against Zimbabwe, leading to Bangladesh’s 5-run win.
Despite Zimbabwe’s strong performance, including an upset win in the 5th T20I, Bangladesh showed dominance throughout the series. Tanzid Hasan and Towhid Hridoy were standout performers with the bat, while Taskin Ahmed and Mohammad Saifuddin excelled in the bowling department, both taking 8 wickets each in the series.
The squad also includes young speedster Tanzim Hasan Sakib and left-arm quick Shoriful Islam, who was rested for the final two matches against Zimbabwe. All-rounder Afif Hossain Dhrubo and right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud have been named as reserves.
Litton Das secured his place in the squad despite struggling with runs, and Bangladesh are placed in Group D alongside South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, and Nepal for the T20 World Cup. They will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka in Dallas on June 7.
