Shahid Afridi Calls for Unified Captaincy Across All Formats in Pakistan Cricket

Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to appoint one captain to lead the national team across all three formats of the game. Afridi’s call for unified leadership comes amidst recent changes in captaincy roles, with Shan Masood and Shaheen Shah Afridi appointed as Test and T20I captains respectively, leaving the ODI captaincy vacant.

Afridi stated, “The PCB must have one captain for all formats and there is no need to have a vice-captain. This will give a clear message to all players who are in charge.”

Support for Team Director Mohammad Hafeez

Afridi extended his support to team director Mohammad Hafeez amidst criticism following Pakistan’s defeats against Australia and New Zealand. Afridi emphasised the importance of providing stability and time to both Hafeez and the team captains to improve Pakistan’s performance.

“If you think Mohammad Hafeez is good then don’t just judge him on one series give him proper time and the same should apply to the captain as well he should be there for three years,” Afridi emphasised.

Call for Continuity in Squad Selection

Amidst speculation regarding potential changes in the squad composition, Afridi urged the PCB to maintain continuity and confidence in the existing group of players. He emphasised the need to support and encourage the current squad without making drastic alterations.

“We just need to continue with the same group of players and give them confidence. But yes I would like to see Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub open the batting in T20s,” Afridi added.
