Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player Shivam Mavi recently shared a heartwarming story about his special bond with team owner Shah Rukh Khan. Mavi, who was with the KKR franchise from 2018 to 2022, recounted a touching gesture from the Bollywood icon that left a lasting impression on him.
Mavi revealed that ahead of his debut for the Indian national team in 2023, where he played his first T20I against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, he received a personal call from Shah Rukh Khan. The actor, known for his warmth and camaraderie with his team, had given Mavi his personal contact number and took the time to wish him luck before his big moment.
“Shah Rukh Khan is very helpful. He has given me his contact number and said I can contact him anytime. I received a phone call from him ahead of my India debut as well. The franchise is a different thing, but it was a personal conversation. I felt really good after that,” shared Mavi, expressing his gratitude for the personal touch from the superstar.
Reflecting on another instance that showcased Shah Rukh Khan’s leadership and motivational skills, Mavi recounted an incident after KKR’s loss to Chennai Super Kings. Both Mavi and Shubman Gill were not part of the playing XI for that match, and despite the defeat, Shah Rukh Khan visited the dressing room to lift the team’s spirits.
“He is a legend. KKR had lost a match against CSK. Both Shubman Gill and I were not part of the playing XI for the game. We were sitting in the dressing room. He (Shah Rukh Khan) came into the dressing room and told us to cheer up. He said that winning or losing is fine; the happiness of the players is the most important. When an owner does something like this, it is a great confidence booster for the players,” recalled Mavi, highlighting the impact of Shah Rukh Khan’s support on the team’s morale.
The heartwarming stories shared by Shivam Mavi offer a glimpse into the special bond between players and their team owner, showcasing the personal touch and encouragement that Shah Rukh Khan brings to the table, both on and off the field.
