Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were on a record-breaking spree in the first ODI against Windies. A number of cricket records were broken as the Indian captain and his deputy shared a stand of 246 runs in India’s pursuit of 322 scored by Windies batting first.
Kohli scored 140 from 107 balls while Rohit made 152 not out from 117 balls. The duo was absolutely relentless as they put up a show of masterclass. Due to their superlative batting effort, India chased down the target with 47 balls to spare.
The Indian captain scored his 36th ton in ODIs which was his 22nd in run chases, 15th at home, 14th as captain and the 5th vs Windies (most for India). It was also his 60th international century as he became the fastest to the achieve the landmark, beating Sachin Tendulkar by 40 innings. Sachin had got there in 426 innings while Kohli took 386 innings.
Also, this was the 13th time Kohli was involved in a 200+ stand. The next best are Ricky Ponting, Hashim Amla, Upul Tharanga & Rohit Sharma with seven each. He went past 6000 runs in chases in ODIs. Only Sachin Tendulkar has more runs batting second in ODI cricket.
