Scott Boland Set To Be Ruled Out Of further County Cricket Matches With Durham Due To Heel Injury

It seems like the first ever county cricket experience for Scott Boland has turned for the worse. His first innings against Warwickshire where he delivered 13 wicketless overs, Boland did not bowl after the first day of the match. The match however ended with a high-scoring draw at Edgbaston.

Scott was said to be under a period of rest after a supposed minor heel injury. He was further looking forward to playing against Worcestershire which starts at Kiddmaster on Friday.

Scott’s Plantar Fasciitis (a common injury amongst fast bowlers) seems to be the reason for the delay in his arrival at England and hence, him missing Durham’s first game. Durham is now very unlikely to feature Boland in their third-round fixture against Worcestershire that starts on Friday.

Durham Scouting For Overseas Replacements

The club is awaiting more information on Scott’s health and is consequently enquiring and scouting for possible early replacements. Durham is considering the case if he is ruled out for playing due to his sustaining injury.

While the team’s captain scott Borthwick initially suggested Boland is under rest as a precautionary step, It is understood that Boland’s heel injury is not a new one, but has rather resurfaced on his debut for Durham.

Cricket Australia’s medical staff to continue working on Boland.

The Australian fast bowler is contractually bound with Durham until the end of July. While his contract covers both, the T20 blast and the county championship Boland is centrally contracted to Cricket Australia (despite his last match being in last year at Ashes). CA is monitoring Boland’s workload and working on his well being. The board is keen for him to play as much as he can.

It was assumed that Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Starc would be rested sometime during Australia’s series against Pakistan, West indies and New Zealand. Boland was rested at the start of the Sheffield Shield season for this very reason. Howrver, the three players ended up playing all seven matches. This left Boland with a relatively quiet summer of six Shield games, plus four Marsh Cup appearances and three BBL matches.
