Sachin Tendulkar received an incredible gift on his 50th Birthday. At the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Sachin Tendulkar’s preferred away-from-home stadium, he has been memorialized in honor of his 50th birthday, which is being commemorated globally.
Along with his close friend Brian Lara, he makes history as the first non-Australian cricketer to have a set of gates at the storied stadium, which is used to enter the playing field, dedicated in his honor. The record-holder for most runs scored and his partner brilliant hitter, who has had a special bond since they revolutionized cricket in the early 1990s, will now share the Gates.
They are situated between the Noble Bradman Messenger Stand and the away dressing room in the Member’s Pavilion. And early in the following year, during the yearly New Year’s Test in Sydney, the Pakistan men’s cricket team is probably going to be the first guests to enter via the Lara-Tendulkar Gates. Before they can achieve the same, the Indian squad would have to wait another year.
For the first time, Tendulkar, who has a stand named in his honor at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, will have his name inscribed abroad. But since Tendulkar played some of his best Test cricket at the SCG, it only seems sensible that it would take place there. Lara, who has a stadium in his native Trinidad named after him, too came of age at the SCG with a stunning 277 that is still regarded as one of the best innings by an overseas batter in Australian history. Ironically, Lara’s epic was released exactly one year after Tendulkar became famous in this country. The two best batsmen of their time combined for 1169 Test runs at the SCG, averaging 97.41 runs per innings. And the Lara-Tendulkar Gates has a plaque that mentions the duo’s sensational records at the historic venue.

It is a great honor to have the gates used by all visiting cricketers to access the field of play at the SCG named after me and my good friend Brian,” Tendulkar said.
“I would like to thank the team at the SCG and Cricket Australia and for this kind gesture. I look forward to visiting the SCG soon,” he added.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized at the Sydney Cricket Ground, as I’m sure Sachin is. The ground holds many special memories for me, and my family and I always enjoy visiting whenever I am in Australia,” said Lara, who named his first-born Sydney following his unforgettable double-century here.
