RR vs SRH Match 52: Final over drama as SRH complete their highest chase in the tournament’s history

In what can only be described as a rollercoaster ride of emotions, the Rajasthan Royals faced off against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a nail-biting match that left fans on the edge of their seats until the very last ball.

The atmosphere was electric as the RR won the toss and opted to bat first on their home ground, hoping to put up a big score that would demoralize the opposition. And boy did they deliver! The opening pair of RR blasted off to a fiery start, setting the tone for what was to come. The crowd roared as the ball sailed over the boundary rope time and time again.

Yashasvi Jaiswal fell after a blistering start when RR were on 54 but the skipper Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler had other plans. They batted like men possessed, taking the game away from the opposition with a magnificent partnership that had the stadium erupting in cheers.

But just when it seemed like the game was in the bag for the Royals, the Sunrisers came out all guns blazing in the chase. The crowd was on its feet as the SRH openers began their assault, adding 51 runs for the first wicket in 6 overs, punishing the bowlers with some stunning shots. The game was neck and neck, with both teams refusing to give an inch. The tension was palpable, with fans holding their breaths with every delivery.

The final over twist

The game took a twist when Glenn Phillips smashed Kuldip Yadav for three sixes and a four in the 19th over, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The game seemed to be slipping away from RR’s grasp as the Sunrisers needed 17 runs from the last over. Samson put his faith in Sandeep Sharma, the veteran bowler, to deliver the final over.

Sandeep Sharma started with a wide yorker. Abdul Samad tried to slog it, but could only manage  2 runs off it. Sharma tried the same on the next ball, but this time Abdul Samad was prepared for it as he hit a six straight down the ground. However, the next three balls yielded just 4 runs, and now SRH needed 5 runs to win off the final ball.

Sandeep Sharma bowled an amazing yorker and Abdul Samad failed to get under it, only drilling it toward the long-on boundary. The game seemed to be over right there and RR started celebrating their victory. However, there was one last twist the game had stored in itself. The dreaded siren for the no-ball started blaring as the third umpire revealed that Sandeep had overstepped. It was a no-ball and just like that, SRH were back in the game.

RR tried to gather themselves, but the Sunrisers smelled blood. Sandeep Sharma charged once again, attempting another yorker, but this time, he missed it by a few inches. This time, Samad seized the opportunity and smashed the ball over the bowler’s head for a flat six! It was pandemonium in the stadium as the Sunrisers completed their highest-ever chase in the tournament’s history.

The Rajasthan Royals were left heartbroken, while the Sunrisers Hyderabad erupted in joy. It was a match filled with drama, emotions, and thrilling action, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the very last ball. The Sawai Mansingh Stadium had witnessed one of the most intense and emotional games in the tournament’s history, a game that will be remembered for years to come.
