KKR coach Abhishek Nayar has highly praised India captain Rohit Sharma ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 match against Pakistan, noting the significant effort Rohit put in after being left out of the 2011 World Cup squad.
Rohit Sharma is now a prominent figure in Indian cricket, thanks to his relentless hard work. His journey from being called the “Maggi man” to becoming the “Hitman” has been remarkable, significantly contributing to Indian cricket.
Initially, Rohit played as a middle-order batter and was seen as a promising talent. However, inconsistency and poor performances led to his exclusion from the 2011 World Cup-winning squad. This setback motivated him to transform his game.
In 2013, during the Champions Trophy, Rohit was promoted to opener, a move that proved pivotal. He established himself as one of the best openers in cricket, becoming a cornerstone of the Indian team.
Besides his batting prowess, Rohit has excelled as a captain, leading India to significant success in T20Is. He aims to secure a title in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
Nayar, a close friend of Rohit, emphasized the extraordinary hard work Rohit put in post-2011. Recalling a conversation, Nayar mentioned that Rohit was determined to come back stronger. Speaking to TRS, Nayar said:
“A lot of people talk about Rohit Sharma’s talent and how he is gifted, but the hard work he put in is something not many can do. After the 2011 WC selection, he told me, ‘I have to work so hard that people will say this is the new Rohit Sharma.'”
Under Rohit’s leadership, India started the T20 World Cup 2024 strongly by defeating Ireland. They are now set to face Pakistan on June 9th.
