Rohit Sharma makes a massive revelation about his retirement; talks about heartbreak in ODI World Cup 2023

India’s cricketing maestro and captain, Rohit Sharma, has put to rest any speculations about his retirement, stating that he is fully focused on winning a World Cup for India. In a candid conversation with Ed Sheeran and Gaurav Kapur on a special edition of “Breakfast with Champions” on April 12, Rohit expressed his intention to continue playing for a few more years.

Rohit’s determination to win a World Cup was evident as he discussed the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, where he will lead India in their quest for glory. Looking ahead, Rohit also expressed his desire for India to reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship in 2025, showcasing his ambition to achieve success across formats.

Rohit Sharma talks about his retirement

“I haven’t really thought about retirement. But, I don’t know where life takes you. I am still playing well at this point in time – so I am thinking I am going to continue for a few more years and then, I don’t know. I really want to win the World Cup and there is a WTC final in 2025, hopefully India makes it,” said Rohit.

The discussion touched upon Rohit’s desire to secure a World Cup victory with India, a feat that has eluded him so far. Reflecting on the 2023 World Cup, where India reached the final but fell short against Australia, Rohit highlighted the team’s strong performance throughout the tournament. He emphasized that India played exceptional cricket until the final, where Australia emerged victorious. Despite the loss, Rohit believes that India did not play poorly in the final, attributing the defeat to certain things not going their way and Australia’s slightly better performance.

“50-over World Cup for me is the actual world cup. We’ve grown up watching that World Cup. More importantly, it was happening in India in front of our home crowd. We played so well up until that final. When we won the semi-finals, I thought, now we’re just a step away. We’re doing all the things right.”

“What’s the one thing that can make us lose the World Cup? Not a single thing came to my mind. Because I thought we ticked all the boxes, we were playing good cricket. Confidence was there.”

“We were all supposed to have one bad day and that I guess that was our bad day. Don’t think we played bad cricket in that final, certain things didn’t go our way. But Australia were slightly better than us,” said Rohit.
