Rizwan dedicated his century to the survivors of Gaza, sparks a controversy

Pakistan is all done with its first two matches of the ongoing World Cup with emerging triumphs in both the matches against Netherlands and Sri Lanka. In the match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka that was held yesterday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Pakistani batter and wicket-keeper amassed a 131-run century off 121 balls. He led his team on the path of victory by significantly contributing to the target chase needed to win the match.

Having won the toss, Sri Lanka chose to bat first and ended up chasing 344 runs with 9 wickets down. During the second innings, Pakistan were put off to a slow start with Babar Azam’s dismissal but Mohammad Rizwan made sure to carry on the show along with Abdullah Shafique with a 176-run partnership.

“For my brothers and sisters in Gaza”

In his Twitter post, Mohammad Rizwan drew attention to the current scenario of the Israeli War. He went on by dedicating his 131-run ton to the people of Gaza, where around 1000 innocent victims have been killed and 5000 are still injured. Rizwan stated “This was for our brothers and sisters in Gaza, Happy to contribute in the win. Credits to the whole team and especially Abdullah Shafique and Hassan Ali for making it easier.”

Hyderabad’s hospitality

Rizwan also put light on the warm hospitality received by the audience of Hyderabad and said that “Extremely grateful to the people of Hyderabad for the amazing hospitality and support throughout.”

Pakistan and India will be soon locking horns with each other in what will come to be known as the most-awaited match of this year’s World Cup. They will face each other on October 14 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Hyderabad.
