RCB Captain Faf du Plessis Fined 12 Lakhs for Slow Over Rate Against KKR

The Sunday was exceptional because of two high-voltage clashes in the IPL 2024. In the first half, Kolkata Knight Riders locked horns with Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens. The rivalry is well known and that took a different hype in the last match. RCB faced a narrow win against KKR. But after RCB captain Faf du Plessis has been fined 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over rate.

Du Plessis’ Fine:

Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper, Faf du Plessis, faced a hefty fine of 12 lakhs for breaching the IPL code of conduct as his team struggled with a sluggish over rate against Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite an improved performance both with bat and ball, RCB agonizingly fell short of victory by a mere run. The Royal Challengers, in pursuit of 223, were dismissed for 221 in their allotted 20 overs. With the visitors lagging in over-rate, du Plessis bore the brunt of the penalty, highlighting the importance of maintaining peace in the fast-paced world of cricket.

After that, IPL gave an official statement. They said, “Faf du Plessis, Captain, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 36 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 21, 2024.”

Later they added, “ As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Faf du Plessis was fined INR 12 Lac.”

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Performance Against KKR:

At their home ground, Kolkata Knight Riders clashed with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a riveting encounter. Opting to bat first, KKR’s batters posed a formidable challenge to the RCB bowlers, showcasing resilience. Yash Mohammed Siraj made the breakthrough for RCB by dismissing Phil Salt, setting the tone for his team’s bowling effort. Subsequently, Yash Dayal accounted for the dismissals of Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi with two well-executed deliveries each. Cameron Green contributed with the ball, claiming two wickets while conceding 35 runs, while Mohammed Siraj and Lockie Ferguson chipped in with a wicket apiece.

In response, Royal Challengers Bengaluru displayed remarkable resolve. Despite early dismissals of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar forged a stellar partnership, both notching up half-centuries to bolster their team’s innings. Suyash Prabhudessai made a significant impact with a brisk 24 off 18 balls, while Dinesh Karthik contributed 25 runs from 18 balls. However, despite their valiant effort, RCB fell short by a narrow margin of 1 run, unable to clinch victory in what proved to be a closely contested match.

After playing 8 matches, Royal Challengers Bengaluru is standing at the bottom of the points table with only 2 points. They are struggling with their form. Their next match is scheduled against Sunrisers Hyderabad. They will be hungry for their second win in this season.
