Rashid Khan Breaks Record with the Best Bowling Performance as Captain in T20 World Cup

Another exciting match ended in the T20 World Cup 2024. In the 14th match of the tournament, Afghanistan and New Zealand locked horns at the Providence Stadium. New Zealand played their first match in this edition of the tournament. On the other hand, Afghanistan won their first match by a huge margin and continued their exceptional form in this match and defeated the opponent by another big margin. Afghanistan skipper Rasid Khan touched another milestone.

Another day of the T20 World Cup started with a brilliant performance by Afghanistan. After scoring a commendable total, they took the match away from opponent by their bowling brilliance. All the bowlers were exceptional but skipper Rashid Khan caught the attention by his unbelievable spell. 

Starting the second innings, Afghanistan started dominating New Zealand. Captain Rashid Khan led the team from the front and delivered one of his best performances ever. While bowling, he conceded 17 runs in just 4 overs and secured 4 wickets with an exceptional economy rate of 4.25. 

He dismissed Kane Williamson in 9 runs. That was a huge wicket. Glenn Phillips was trying to play a crucial knock but Rashid dismissed him in 18 runs. Mark Chapman, Micheal Bracewell, and Lockie Ferguson were dismissed in some brilliant deliveries by the spinner. With that impressive performance, he touched a new milestone. He registered the best bowling figure by a captain in the T20 World Cup.  Previously, South African skipper Daniel Vettori registered a spell of 4/17 against India in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Zeeshan Maqsood is standing on the third position with a spell of 4/20 against Papua New Guinea in 2021

New Zealand’s Batting Disaster:

The tournament didn’t start desirably for New Zealand. While batting in the second innings, their entire batting lineup struggled in front of Afghanistan’s brilliant bowling. They lost their first wicket in the first delivery of the second innings. Opener Finn Allen walked away on a duck. They needed an impactful partnership but the Kiwi batters failed to do it. 

Devon Conway and Kane Williamson were dismissed on 8 and 9 runs. Fazalhaq Farooqi sent Daryl Mitchell back scoring only 5 runs. Mohammad Nabi dismissed Glenn Phillips on a crucial point. Matt Henry added only 12 runs. They got all out only in 75 runs and faced a huge defeat of 84 runs. On the flip side, Afghanistan registered two big victories in a row giving a dreamy start to the tournament. Currently, they are standing on the top of group c with an excellent run rate of +5.225.
