But After the World Cup ends, Rahul Dravid will end his tenure as the head coach of Team India. BCCI is already searching for new faces for the crucial position. Before Dravid’s tenure ended, his former teammate Mohammed Kaif appreciated his new role.
Rahul Dravid’s Coaching Career:
Rahul Dravid is one of the best batters in the history of Indian cricket. Being addressed as ‘The Wall’, Dravid’s contribution to Indian cricket is unexplainable. After that, he came back again to contribute to Indian cricket. Dravid Become Team India’s coach in 2021 after Ravi Shastri’s tenure ended. Under his guidance, Team India achieved a lot but still lagged behind in winning any major ICC trophy.
In 2023, India won the Asia Cup under his guidance. The biggest heartbreak came when India faced a defeat against Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup. In 2022, they lost the T20 World Cup to Australia by 10 wickets. India has also lost the World Test Championship. But this year, they defeated England in a five-match Test series by a 4-1 margin. India qualified in the ODI World Cup final after being unbeaten. In all those setbacks, Team India showcased amazing resilience on the big stage and set examples of excellence.
Mohammed Kaif on Rahul Dravid:
After taking the helm, Rahul Dravid took Team India to new heights. India’s performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 was the best. India entered into the finals being unbeaten in 10 matches. But Rahul Dravid will end his tenure right after the ongoing T20 World Cup. And Team India will have a new coach after that.
As Dravid is ending his coaching contract, his former teammate Mohammad Kaif lauded him. He said, “This will be decided by BCCI, this is a very long process. Rahul Dravid did a good job. India reached the 2023 World Cup final, winning 10 consecutive matches and losing only one game. So Rahul has done well for India as a coach.”
Rahul Dravid’s contract is ending after the T20 World Cup. He is not going to renew his contract. BCCI already declared that they are finding new candidates for this prestigious position. A lot of names are coming back. Most of the buzz is created over Gautam Gambhir. BCCI is looking for a coach for the long term, till the 2027 World Cup. it will be exciting to watch who will be Dravid’s successor.
