Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) have secured their spot in the final of SA20 2024 for the second consecutive year after defeating Durban Super Giants (DSG) in the semi-final. The key to SEC’s victory was their exceptional bowling performance, with Baartrman and Jansen leading the way by taking eight wickets between them. Worrall also impressed with his bowling, particularly in his first spell. SEC’s fielding was sharp throughout the match, highlighted by Markram’s outstanding one-handed catch to dismiss Smuts.
For the Super Giants, wicketkeeper Quinton De Kock displayed smartness and great cricketing awareness to dismiss Patrick Kruger. Quinton de Kock‘s intelligence and quick thinking were on full display in the dismissal of Patrick Kruger. Kruger had just drilled the ball straight down the ground and completed a single, but his lazy running between the wickets proved costly. De Kock, stationed at the receiving end of the throw, showed great awareness as he casually gathered the ball and swiftly dislodged the bails with Kruger’s bat in the air. This smart piece of fielding showcased de Kock’s sharp cricketing mind and his ability to seize opportunities in the field. He had previously run out Fakhar Zaman the same way in an international match between South Africa and Pakistan.
DSG, after a rain delay, managed to post a total of 157 for 8, with Malan’s contribution of 63 being the standout performance. However, this total was considered below-par. In response, SEC comfortably chased down the target, winning by a convincing margin of 51 runs.
With this win, the Eastern Cape have secured their place in the final, where they will face the winner of Qualifier 2. DSG will have another chance to reach the final in Qualifier 2, where they will take on the winner of Paarl Royals vs Joburg Super Kings. Qualifier 2 is scheduled to take place in Joburg on Thursday.
The final promises to be an exciting finale, with Sunrisers Eastern Cape aiming to claim the SA20 2024 title against a determined opponent from Qualifier 2.
