Purple Cap Holder of IPL 2023: Updated After MI vs CSK Match 12

Today’s doubleheader saw Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings coming out on top. As the day was pretty eventful in itself, the same was reflected in the Purple Cap list. The list has seen a few changes, with a couple of new names in the top 10.

A new Number 1

We have a new Number 1 at the top as Rajasthan Royals’ Yuzvendra Chahal has continued his amazing run at the Indian Premier League 2023. Chahal, who has been turning the tide with his leg spin this tournament, picked up 3 wickets against Delhi Capitals in today’s first game. He removed Delhi’s captain David Warner, all-rounder Axar Patel and wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel to make sure his team emerges on top. Yuzvendra Chahal now has 8 wickets in 3 games at an economy of 7.83 and has surpassed Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler Mark Wood to have the Purple Cap on his head. Wood had missed out on the last game for LSG due to health concerns and has thus slipped to the second spot.

Boult continues his swing

Rajasthan Royals pacer Trent Boult has continued to traumatize the batters with his sheer pace and unplayable swing. Even in today’s game against Delhi Capitals, the left-arm pacer removed batters Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey on consecutive deliveries in the first over to put Rajasthan in top gear right from the start. He eventually finished with figures of 3 for 29, including a maiden over. He has found himself back in the top 10 as he is currently seated at the 6th spot in the Purple Cap list.

Tushar Deshpande: Expensive but effective

Tushar Deshpande is the only bowler from Chennai Super Kings in the top 10. His teammate, Moeen Ali, did not play today’s game due to health concerns and has thus slipped out of the top 10 in the Purple Cap list. Deshpande has been slow but steady at the  tournament. He has been expensive, leaking runs at more than 12 runs an over but has  also managed to pick up 5 wickets in 3 games. He now ranks at the 10th spot and has been impressing on the big stage with his sheer pace. He just needs to work on his line and length a little bit.
