Opener Prithvi Shaw is set to make a comeback into competitive cricket after being out of action due to an injury. The 24-year-old right-hand batter has been named in Mumbai’s 17-member Squad for their next game against Bengal at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The squad is led by Ajinkya Rahane who is also eyeing a comeback into the Indian team after being left out of the team for the five-match Test series against England at Home.

The Timing

Talking about Shaw the batter has been at the NCA for quite a while now and will be itching to make his comeback into domestic cricket. The Mumbai-based batter could not have asked for a better time to make a comeback considering the amount of cricket that lies ahead with the Ranji Trophy and the IPL.

These matches provide Shaw a chance to impress the selector and stake his claim for a spot in the Indian team.

The Delay

The NCA informed the MCA stating that “Prithvi Shaw is progressing well in his batting and fielding drills. He will undergo higher volumes of acceleration, change of direction, and agility drills over the next 3 weeks to develop the required robustness for his injured knee ligament before making a return to sports.”

Shaw has been out of action since August 2023 due to a knee injury.

On January 20, Cricbuzz reported about the delay in return to action by Shaw as the NCA wanted to subject him to a higher volume of workload to test his preparedness.

Mumbai squad: Ajinkya Rahane (captain), Shivam Dube, Prithvi Shaw, Jay Bista, Bhupen Lalwani, Amogh Bhatkal. Suved Parkar, Prasad Pawar (WK), Hardik Tamore (WK), Suryansh Shedge, Tanush Kotian, Atharva Ankolekar, Aditya Dhumal, Mohit Awasthi, Dhaval Kulkarni, Roystan Dias and Sylvester Dsouza.
