The Story

Indian will be playing a three-match ODI series against England after the completion of the T20I series of March 20. They will get the rest of three and then once again take on each other from March 23. The rest of the two matches will be played on March 26 and 28 with the MCA Stadium in Pune hosting all of the games. The matches are likely to be played behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 case spike in Maharashtra. As per reports of Cricbuzz.com, Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna and Baroda captain Krunal Pandya might earn their Indian national cricket team ODI call after their showcases in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Krunal Pandya has already played 18 T20Is for India, making his debut in 2018, Prasidh Krishna is yet to earn his maiden India call in any format. Prasidh Krishna plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL whereas Krunal Pandya represents Mumbai Indians. He was one of the most successful bowlers in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, picking up 14 wickets in the tournament as his best bowling figure of 4/17 came against Bihar in Bengaluru. Krunal Pandya, on the other hand, was leading Baroda in the tournament. He topped the batting charts for the team with 388 runs at an average of 129.33 and a strike-rate of 117.93. He also picked five wickets with a best of 3/62.

No Place for Shaw or Padikkal

Prithvi Shaw’s performance in the tournament as well impressed one and all. Shaw who had quite a tough time earlier made his presence felt yet again in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Devdutt Padikkal also did his bit. But still, the top two highest-scores of the tournament will not be taken into consideration by the selectors, reportedly. This is because of the presence of four openers, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rohit Sharma already in contention. Unless there is a last-minute change of plans, all four are certain to find a place in the squad for the three games to be played in Pune.
