Points Table on the Mind of Rohit Sharma as MI Reach 6th Place

In a rare occasion, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 by seven wickets. Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians captain returned to this match after missing the previous one against Chennai Super Kings. This must have helped in team spirit but did not help much in the results.

Batting first Mumbai Indians set a target of 156 for KKR. They started with a bang but failed to continue with the momentum later. Thanks to Lockie Ferguson and the spinners, MI were restricted to much lower score than they were expected to put. In reply, Kolkata also had a brisk start. However Shubman Gill left for 13 runs but his opening partner Venkatesh Iyer once again managed to steal the show. He scored 53 off just 30 balls while the next man, Rahul Tripathi remained till the end to score 74* off 42.

Rohit Sharma who became the first batter to score above 1000 against an IPL franchise, was looking in good touch today. But after adding 33 off 30 he left the show. The team, on the other hand is standing in the 6th place now while Kolkata Knight Riders have moved to the fourth place

While speaking about the match, Rohit said, “Few areas. We started really well but didn’t get enough in the back end. Was a good pitch to bat on. Failed to capitalise on the start. We didn’t bowl pretty well to start with. We spoke about being on the stumps and let the batters take chances – however that didn’t happen. Things like that can happen. The basics of cricket is that you make small partnerships. That stopped us from taking on the bowlers. We’ve fought well in the past really well, hopefully all of us can pull together. Points table is always there in the back of the mind. Important to know where you stand. I am OK.”
