PCB to appoint Former New Zealand Player as their coach

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is actively pursuing former New Zealand cricketer Luke Ronchi to fill the role of head coach for the national team. Ronchi, who currently serves as the batting coach for the New Zealand cricket team, has emerged as a prime candidate for the prestigious position.

Sources close to the situation have revealed that PCB officials have reached out to Ronchi regarding the head coach position. This development comes after several other candidates, including Shane Watson, Mike Hesson, and Darren Sammy, declined offers to coach the Pakistan team.

The PCB’s search for a new head coach follows a series of coaching changes within the team last year. Grant Bradburn was appointed as head coach after Ronchi turned down a previous offer from the PCB. However, with Bradburn’s tenure ending, the PCB is once again looking to Ronchi to take up the reins of the team.

Ronchi’s connection with Pakistani cricket dates back to his stint with the Islamabad United franchise in the 2018 Pakistan Super League (PSL). His exceptional performance in the tournament, including being the top run-scorer and earning the Player of the Match title in the final, played a crucial role in Islamabad United’s victory.

Despite turning down the PCB’s previous coaching offer, Ronchi is reportedly considering the latest proposal. The 42-year-old cricketer is known for his deep understanding of the game and his ability to mentor young players. His experience as a player and a coach makes him a valuable asset for any team.

While details regarding the financial aspects and other specifics of the offer are still being negotiated, talks between Ronchi and PCB officials are said to be progressing positively. The PCB is eager to secure Ronchi’s services as they look to improve the team’s performance, especially with the upcoming T20 World Cup in June.

Pakistan is currently preparing for a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, scheduled to begin on April 18. As part of their preparation, the PCB has selected 29 players to train at the Kakul military camp from March 25 to April 8. The squad for the series is yet to be announced.
