Pakistan to Tour Ireland for Three T20Is in May

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the Pakistan cricket team will tour Ireland for a three-match T20I series in May. The matches are scheduled to be held on May 10, 12, and 14 at Castle Avenue in Dublin. This series is part of Pakistan’s preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies in June.

Pakistan’s last international series was against New Zealand in January, where they played a T20I series. Before the tour of Ireland, Pakistan will host New Zealand for five T20Is in April, with the series starting on April 18 and concluding on April 27. Following the series against Ireland, Pakistan will tour England for four T20Is starting May 22.

The last time Pakistan visited Ireland was in 2018 for Ireland’s inaugural Test match. This upcoming series will be the first meeting between the two teams since then, as their scheduled T20I series in Dublin in July 2020 was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ireland, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back from their recent ODI and T20I series defeats against Afghanistan in the UAE. However, they did manage to secure a historic Test win against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.

It’s worth noting that Pakistan was also scheduled to play three T20Is against Netherlands in May, but the series was postponed indefinitely last November due to scheduling conflicts and concerns about player workload. The PCB is actively looking for another window to reschedule the series.

This series against Ireland will provide Pakistan with valuable match practice ahead of the T20 World Cup, as they look to fine-tune their squad and strategies for the tournament.
