Organizing T20 World Cup is Unrealistic Says the CA Chairman

On Tuesday Cricket Australia chairman admitted that it would not be easy to host the T20 World Cup this year in this pandemic situation. He said that it would be very difficult and does sound unrealistic as well.

CA not keen to host T20 World Cup

Earl Eddings, chairman of Cricket Australian addressed the logical issue of hosting the T20 World Cup in October-November. He explained that managing 16 teams with the support staffs would not be an easy process. “While it hasn’t been formally called off this year, or postponed, trying to get 16 countries into Australia in the current world, where most countries are still going through COVID spiking, I think it’s unrealistic, or it’s going to be very, very difficult.”

Eddings informed that the cricket board had suggested few options to the ICC and would work once the global body takes a call. “The ICC are having meetings as we speak, it’s a bit of a movable feast at the moment. We’ve got a fantastic local organising committee who are busy preparing for every eventuality and the decision that will come.”

CA keen to host India

Eddings, however, sounded hopeful about hosting India in December-January for Test tour. Cricket Australia reportedly has been going through a financial crisis and India’s Test tour can give them some relief. Speaking on the same, Eddings said, “We’ve had a lot of very positive chats with India, they’re very keen to tour. Now it’s a matter of how we get over the hurdles with COVID-19 for them to come into the country.”

He further added, “Cricket, like all national sports, has been going through a period of significant change and in recent months we have had the added uncertainty delivered by COVID-19. The entire cricket community has been affected and difficult decisions have been and will continue to be necessary to ensure that cricket at every level is in the best shape it can be now and in the future.”
