Gujarat Titans completed an easy victory over Punjab Kings in a rather slow game tonight. Punjab batters lacked grit and confidence as the team faltered to just 153 runs in 20 overs. Gujarat chased down the target easily on the penultimate ball of the inning, with Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha shining with the bat for them. The Orange Cap has seen a few changes after todayâs game.Â
Dhawan fails
In a rare turn of events, Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan failed to deliver against Gujarat Titans. Dhawan started off a little rocky and looked uncomfortable in his 8-ball stay at the crease. He played 6 dots and just hit 2 balls for fours, scoring 8 runs overall. Dhawan looked a little jumpy against Joshua Little, who was swinging the ball early on and tried using his feet against him. He got out trying to play an advanced shot to Joshua Little, only to be caught by Alzarri Joseph. Despite todayâs failure, Dhawan has managed to retain the top position and is currently the rightful owner of the Orange Cap.
Gill and Sudarshan continue their good run
Gujarat Titans are heavily reliant on their two batters this season, who have been continuing to deliver time and again. The first one of them is Shubman Gill. Opening the batting, Gill has been providing the stability Gujarat Titans need at the top. He is well complemented by his partner Wriddhiman Saha, who plays strokes while Gill assesses the pitches. Once set, Gill makes sure to finish games for Gujarat. The same happened in todayâs game as well. Chasing a mediocre total of 154, Gujarat needed someone to hold down the fort on one end and he did exactly the same, while also maintaining his strike rate. Gill got to 67 runs in 49 balls today, with 7 fours, and a gigantic six. He now has 183 runs in 4 games and is currently at the 5th spot in the Orange Cap list.Â
His teammate, Sai Sudarshan has been a strong rock this tournament. Batting at 3 for Gujarat Titans, Sudarshan labels his wicket at a very high value. He has shown great resilience and determination. Even though he just scored 19 runs today, he looked confident and comfortable during his stay at the crease. He now has 156 runs in 4 games and is currently in the 8th position in the Orange Cap list. Lucknowâs star batter Kyle Mayers has finally slipped out of the top 10. After Sai Sudarshan, Tilak Varma is the only uncapped player in the list, with 147 runs in 3 games. He is at the 9th spot.
