New Zealand bowler Mitchell Santner provided a second breakthrough by dismissing Afghanistani skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi for 8 runs. He really outwitted the opponent team by taking Shahidi’s wicket so early. New Zealand skipper Tom Latham and Glenn Philips contributed essentially in the team’s 288-run chase. Other than these two players, Will Young also smashed a half century to carry on the dominance. With Mitchell pulling off an early catch, he provided an extra hand to New Zealand’s ascendancy.

A look at Shahidi’s wicket

The 31-year old bowler took the catch of the tournament catching the ball one-handed. He executed one of the most superior catches since the commencement of the 2023 World Cup and dismissed Hashmatullah Shahidi for 8. After getting the ball delivered from Lockie Ferguson, the ball looped on the square leg and was not well-timed. Santner, being positioned at the mid-wicket, made a swift move and caught the ball one-handed leaving spectators and fans in awe.

Afghanistan is now four wickets down with openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran getting dismissed for 11 and 14 runs respectively. Rahmat Shah remained consistent until he was dismissed 36 off 62 deliveries.
