Neither Kumble nor Laxman, BCCI has Foreign Coach in Mind!

If the BCCI source’s version to IANS to be believes, there is zero chance of Anil Kumble returning as head coach of Indian cricket team. Moreover, the source claimed that even VVS Laxman would not be India’s coach.

A BCCI source told IANS that it was only the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly who was keen on having Kumble as India’s coach. Neither Kumble or most of the BCCI officials are interested in the same. “Well, neither Kumble wants to return, nor the BCCI officials, other than president Sourav Ganguly, are or were interested. The board is looking for a foreign coach now. Kumble knows that he will have to face the same old team members (Virat Kohli and others in the team), nothing new, then why would he return? And moreover Dada (Ganguly) has recommended his name but other officials expressed their disagreement on it.”

Anil Kumble’s first tenure as Indian head coach came to end after the defeat in the Champions Trophy in 2017. A rift between him and captain Kohli saw him finally resigning from the job. Even then Ganguly had wanted Kumble to continue. At that time, Sourav Ganguly was a member of the BCCI’s Cricket Improvement Committee along with other former cricketers.

While speaking about Kumble, the source said, “VVS Laxman also will not be able to get the post.” He further spoke about Kumble’s ability as coach citing Punjab Kings’ situation in the IPL. “However, there’s still a month left, so let’s see what comes or some change of minds! Also look at Kumble’s record as coach, it is not that impressive. See what is happening with Kings Punjab in IPL.”
