Mumbai faces the hurdle of NCA’s ‘Return to Play’ clearance for Shardul’s inclusion in Ranji Trophy matches against Kerla and Bengal

Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur’s return to the Ranji Trophy has been hindered by a delay in NCA’s ‘Return to Play’ clearance. Shardul who was last seen in action in the First Test of a Two-match Test series against South Africa is expected to return to play Ranji Trophy games against Kerala and Bengal.
But the delay in the clearance has put his return in jeopardy. Shardul last played domestic games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Saurashtra and Tripura
Selector’s Corner
“Shardul Thakur had some issue in his ankle and he was advised two-week rest by the National Cricket Academy. He was in Bengaluru for further assessment and future course of action and is likely to be available for selection soon,” Mumbai chief selector Raju Kulkarni said as quoted by News18.
“We are still waiting for NCA’s Return to Play (RTP) report on Shardul Thakur. We need to follow the procedure and the moment the report comes, we will have clearance to pick him up for the Ranji Trophy. For now, we have made the necessary provisions and will pick him up only when the report comes from the NCA. We are hopeful to get the RTP before our sixth-round game,” he added.
A Golden Opportunity
Shardul would like to make the most of the chances he gets in the Ranji Trophy and the subsequent IPL season to stake his claim for a place in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup. Shardul who has had a mediocre last two IPL seasons was picked up by his old team CSK in the 2024 IPL auction. The all-rounder would look to deliver a solid performance for CSK to book a spot in the Indian team for the mega event scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA
