MS Dhoni felicitated by N Srinivasan for his 200th match as a captain

MS Dhoni is captaining the Chennai Super Kings for the 200th time in his IPL career. MS Dhoni, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), flipped the coin on Wednesday night at Chepauk for their 200th match together as the team’s captain. Dhoni has now captained a team in 200 games in the IPL, making him the league’s first such captain.

The 41-year-old was honored on this particular occasion by CSK owner N Srinivasan. Before the toss, Dhoni accepted a souvenir from Srinivasan and grinned broadly. “Salute the King and whistle for his 200th as Thala!” CSK said in the caption of the photos he posted from the felicitation ceremony.

Dhoni chose to bowl first against RR after winning the toss. Speaking about reaching 200 victories as the captain of Chennai Super Kings, a remarkable accomplishment in the IPL or any other form of cricket, Dhoni thanked the supporters for their help along the way. Dhoni spoke at the toss, “It feels good and also I feel the crowd has been fantastic. Also, the fact that we started in the old stadium, it was very hot and humid. But now it feels like we’re playing in Switzerland. It’s good to play. We have seen cricket change – how T20 was played at that point of time till now, a lot has changed. The crowd has been fantastic.”

Before the IPL 2023 match against RR, Dhoni captained CSK 199 times and won 120 of those games with a winning percentage of 60.61. Dhoni has overall led 213 games for both CSK and Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG). Before electing to step down as captain the following year, Dhoni captained RPSG in 2016. When Ravindra Jadeja was the team’s captain in IPL 2022, Dhoni also participated in a few games for CSK just as a keeper.
