In anticipation of England’s five-match Test series against India in early 2024, former captain Michael Vaughan has raised doubts about the effectiveness of England’s aggressive ‘Bazball’ strategy on spin-friendly pitches. “If you add in Ashwin, Jadeja, and Axar Patel on spinning wickets in India, they may get blown away, they may get absolutely destroyed,” Vaughan remarked in a discussion with Fox Sports. He noted that while England plans to maintain their aggressive style, facing three quality spinners might prove challenging, especially after Nathan Lyon’s impactful performance in England.
Vaughan acknowledged the risky yet captivating nature of Bazball, praising England’s approach during the Ashes. Despite not winning the series, he emphasized that even Australians admired England’s all-or-nothing style. “There’s not one Australian that can look me in the eye and say they didn’t admire the way England played in the Ashes,” Vaughan asserted.
