Matthew Hayden Praises Samson’s Talent, Questions His Ongoing Exclusion from National Team

As the IPL 2024 is going into more depth, the T20 World Cup is also coming close. The biggest T20 tournament is set to be staged from June 1. The anticipation is going on for the upcoming tournament. India’s squad for the marquetry event is yet to be announced. The competition is to be in that 15-member squad. At that moment, Matthew Hayden made a big remark about Sanju Samson.

Hayden’s Remark on Sanju:

After a heartbreak in the 2023 ODI World Cup, Team India is all set to take on the challenges in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Right now, the IPL 2024 is going on. This is a big opportunity for all to showcase their talent ahead of the big event. All the players giving their best to be in the 15-squad of India. There is heavy competition in all the departments. There are three contenders for the wicketkeeper’s position, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Sanju Samson. All of them are in great form. But Matthew Hayden made a big remark on Sanju Samson.

He said, “With Sanju, he always seems to get overlooked for national honours. I honestly been saying this for a decade, I don’t know why because he is a serious hitter of the ball, and if you put him up top, he does the damage through the phases. Tonight was the perfect captain’s knock and guess what, he did it in the end.”

Sanju’s Current Form and Competition

As the IPL 2024 is going on, Sanju Samson is busy captaining  Rajasthan Royals. Under Sanju’s captaincy, the team is performing well. He is also in great form. In the last match against Lucknow Super Giants, Sanju showcased his class. After losing the first few wickets quickly, Sanju Samson made an excellent partnership with Dhruv Jurel. Sanju completed his half-century and played an excellent unbeaten knock of 71 runs in 33 balls. That knock helped his team win.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has been in outstanding form, currently ranking second in the Orange Cap list with 385 runs. Samson’s strike rate of 161 is the second highest among the top 5 batters, trailing only KKR’s Sunil Narine. His consistency this season is noteworthy, a trait not often associated with him. Leading RR, he has scored four fifties in nine matches, with his highest score being an unbeaten 82. He is a strong contender for the wicketkeeper position in the T20 World Cup.
