A video clip of bowler Mahesh Kumar’s unique bowling action has taken social media by storm, drawing comparisons to Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The video, which surfaced on Monday, shows Kumar replicating Bumrah’s distinctive bowling style during a net session for Gujarat Titans.
Kumar’s action mirrors Bumrah’s famous sling-arm delivery, with a similar run-up and release. The clip, despite being two years old, has garnered attention for its uncanny resemblance to Bumrah’s bowling technique, known for its effectiveness in delivering yorkers.
The 27-year-old Karnataka native has previously served as a net bowler for Royal Challengers Bangalore and has even bowled at the Team India nets. He was invited to the nets by former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra, who gifted him a pair of shoes. Kumar also had the opportunity to interact with Virat Kohli, who advised him to focus on his strengths rather than imitate others.
Meanwhile, Bumrah has been in outstanding form in IPL 2024, emerging as the leading wicket-taker with 14 scalps in nine matches at an economy rate of 6.63. His performance includes a five-wicket haul against Royal Challengers Bangalore, making him the first bowler in IPL history to achieve this feat against RCB. Overall, it was Bumrah’s second five-wicket haul in the IPL, with his first coming against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022.
