Maheesh Theekshana returns to Chennai side; strengthens the bowling lineup

Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana, two Sri Lankan cricketers, missed the opening few games of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 because of commitments to the national cricket team. The Sri Lankan team for the recently finished three-match T20 series against New Zealand included Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana.

Theekshana has joined the CSK camp ahead of their important clash against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on Wednesday. This is a huge boost for the side as the Chennai wicket assists the spinners. Theekshana has got many variations under his sleeves and could be more than a handful on this wicket. He can bowl in any phase of the innings and walks straight into the Chennai side.

Sri Lankan Duo returns to the side

The addition of Sri Lankan bowlers might benefit Chennai’s team, which at the moment appears to have some bowling weaknesses. Theekshana could bowl in middle overs, death overs, and power plays. Theekshana, along with other spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner, might be a crucial component in their bowling attack because MA Chidambaram Stadium is known for its spin-friendly grounds.

The Chennai-based squad gained four points after beating MI to climb into fourth place in the 10-team points standings. On Wednesday, April 12, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the MS Dhoni-led group will compete against the Rajasthan Royals.

The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) did manage to defeat its bitter rivals Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, their second straight victory in the present IPL 2023 season, but they also suffered two significant injuries. Ben Stokes, the captain of England’s Test team, was out with an injury going into the game, and CSK lost their fast bowler Deepak Chahar to a hamstring injury during their encounter against Mumbai. The two injuries received a significant update from CSK on Sunday.

For the 200th time in the league, MS Dhoni will serve as the team’s captain. He will look to lead the side to a victory in his 200th match.
