In a highly anticipated match of the IPL 2024 season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) set a competitive total of 176/6 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Lucknow Super Giants set a new IPL record against Chennai Super Kings.
CSK got off to a steady start, with openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra laying a solid foundation. However, LSG struck back with quick wickets, dismissing Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane to put pressure on the CSK middle order.

After winning the toss, LSG skipper KL Rahul elected to bowl first, aiming to restrict the formidable CSK batting lineup. Lucknow became the first team to win 5 tosses in a row. LSG made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Matt Henry in place of Shamar Joseph. On the other hand, CSK made two changes, with Deepak Chahar and Moeen Ali replacing Shardul Thakur and Daryl Mitchell.
Despite the early setbacks, CSK’s middle order held firm, thanks to a measured half-century from Ravindra Jadeja. He anchored the innings and ensured that CSK posted a competitive total. Jadeja found able support from Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni, who played crucial cameos to boost the scoring rate towards the end of the innings.
Dhoni, in particular, was in sublime form, bludgeoning the LSG bowlers to all parts of the ground. His unbeaten 28 off just 9 balls, including three fours and two sixes, provided the late flourish CSK needed to reach a challenging total.
For LSG, Matt Henry and Ravi Bishnoi were the pick of the bowlers, picking up two wickets each. However, their efforts were not enough to prevent CSK from posting a competitive total.
With CSK setting a target of 177 runs, the pressure is now on LSG’s batsmen to deliver a strong performance and chase down the total to secure a crucial victory in their IPL campaign.
