LSG vs RCB Match 43: Virat Kohli takes a dig at Gautam Gambhir after an 18-run win

Virat Kohli is one of the most animated cricketers in the world. Kohli is known for his aggression and his uncanny habit of never holding back. Even during the game against the Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, Kohli took the field with an assertive mindset and was very expressive throughout the game. He was further involved in a verbal spat with Gautam Gambhir and Naveen ul Haq after the game, which created all sorts of headlines in the cricketing world. However, after the game, Kohli took an indirect dig at Gautam Gambhir.

Kohli’s verbal dig

After every win, it is a tradition for the Royal Challengers Bangalore to post a video of their victory celebrations. They did the same after Monday’s win against the Lucknow Super Giants. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, RCB’s Instagram handle posted a video, teasing the team’s victory celebration. The video showcased Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and other RCB cricketers enjoying their time after thrashing the LSG on their home ground.

However, for a brief period, the camera fixed on Virat Kohli and he could be heard saying, “If you can give it, you gotta take it. Otherwise, don’t give it.” The video immediately caught attention with fans and netizens resharing it over and over again with their interpretations, the common notion being that the statement was a dig at the LSG mentor, Gautam Gambhir.

What goes around, comes around

It all started in Match 15 of the IPL 2023 when RCB and LSG battled each other at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. LSG successfully chased down 212 runs on the final ball and defeated RCB on their home turf post which, Gambhir was seen shushing the Chinnaswamy crowd, sparking a huge debate on the internet.

When the two teams met again on Monday night, Virat Kohli decided to give it back to the Lucknow crowd. In an attempt to get back at Gautam Gambhir, Virat did the exact same shushing gesture to the Lucknow crowd, but everyone knew that the finger was metaphorically pointing at Gautam Gambhir. In what was a rather untasteful encounter, Gautam and Virat fought after the game, with other players getting in the middle to avoid things from further escalating. Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir have both been fined by the IPL for breaching the code of conduct. They have been handed over a 100% match fee fine.
