Last season of La Liga saw Barcelona winning their 26th title whereas Real Madrid finished at third place. But in just one year, the scenario changed drastically. This year, Real Madrid proved to be the team in Spain as they recorded their 34th title on Thursday night. Madrid beat Villarreal 2-1, while Barcelona lost 2-1 to Osasuna. It was no one-off incident. In fact, Lionel Messi’s team has been on a poor run in the recent past which had made them lose the title.
Now Messi fears that his team may lose Champions League too because of the poor showcase. While explaining the same, he reminded how Barcelona had lost against the likes of Liverpool and Roma in the last couple of Champions Leagues.
Messi worried about Champions League
Just after the loss, the frustrated Lionel Messi said in a TV interview, “This game represents the entire year. We have been an erratic and weak team.” He added, “The feeling on this team is that it tries, but that it cannot get the job done. Today in the first half they were better than we were and it seems we have to fall behind to react like we tried to do in the second half.”
Regarding Madrid, Lionel Messi opined, “Madrid did its part by winning all its matches, which is impressive, but we also helped them to win this league. We have to be critical of how we have played, starting with the players, and the rest of the club.”
While opining on the Champions League that Barcelona have to play for Lionel Messi sounded a bit worried. He recalled last few big defeats and said, “Roma, Liverpool… the fans are running out of patience because we’re not giving them anything. If we want to fight for the Champions League, a lot has to change. Like this, we will lose to Napoli.”
