Earlier, the BCCI had released a Google forms link on their official X handle, after which several cricket enthusiasts jokingly filled out the form, registering themselves for the position.

However, there are some good names that are expected to apply for the role.

Sangakkara refuses to apply for the open position

Ex- Sri Lankan legendary cricketer Kumar Sangakkara has denied to apply for the reputable position as team India’s next head coach.

Sangakkara is currently the director of cricket operations and head coach for IPL team Rajasthan Royals.

The Royals had an impressive run in the IPL 2024 season, with coming up to the top 3 of the points table. However, they lost the qualifier 2 match against SunRisers Hyderabad.

Sangakkara has stated that he doesn’t have the time to commit as the Indian team coaching job is hectic, taking almost 9-10 months a year.

“I have not been approached and I don’t have time to commit full-time to an India coaching job. Happy with my stint with Royals and let’s see how it goes,” the Sri Lanka legend said.

When Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer refused to apply for the coach position

Recently Australian legendary cricketers Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer had also shown disinterest in the big job.

Ponting had revealed that he is very keen on being a coach for international cricket. He also stated that he was approached to be India’s head coach, but it’s an “unlikely” option for him at the moment.

“I’ve seen a lot of reports about it,” Ponting told the ICC Review. “Normally these things pop up on social media before you even know about them, but there were a few little one-on-one conversations during the IPL, just to get a level of interest from me as to whether I would do it.”

“I’d love to be a senior coach of a national team, but with the other things that I have in my life and wanting to have a bit of time at home…everyone knows if you take a job working with the Indian team you can’t be involved in an IPL team, so it would take that out of it as well.”

“Also, a national head coach is a ten- or 11-month-of-the-year job, and as much as I’d like to do it, it just doesn’t fit into my lifestyle right now and the things that I really enjoy doing.” He added.

However Ricky’s family, especially his son Fletcher, wants him to take the job. Ultimately, it was his own decision that made him refuse the position.
