Kohli becomes the most successful Test captain of India

With the series win against the West Indies, another feather has been added to Virat Kohli’s cap. He became the most successful Test captain of Indian cricket ever.

India gets another win

Kohli’s team won the second and final Test match of the series by 257 runs in Jamaica on Monday. India went into the fourth day of the match looking for eight West Indian wickets. They completed the task after lunch to wrap up the match quickly. Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets each to seal the series-clinching win for India. The win also means that India wins the series 2-0 to begin their journey of World Test Championship with a bang. India currently leads the table with 120 points from this recently concluded series against West Indies.

Kohli gets a new record

Virat Kohli now has 28 wins from 48 matches. He has overtaken his predecessor MS Dhoni who had 27 wins from 60 Test matches. India has lost 10 games and drawn another 10 under Kohli whereas under Dhoni 18 loses and 15 drawn matches were registered. Sourav Ganguly is the third on the list of most successful Indian captains who led the team to 21 wins, 13 losses and 15 draws in 49 matches, followed by Mohammad Azharuddin in the fourth with 14 wins. In the overall table, the record for most wins in International cricket belongs to Graeme Smith, who has 53 wins, while Ricky Ponting has 48.

Since Kohli was announced as the permanent captain of India Test team in 2015 India have won some memorable Test matches in both India and abroad. In January 2019 India won their maiden Test series in Australia, beating the hosts 2-1 Down Under. Kohli, however, did not show interest about his individual records and said, “It’s a by-product of the quality team we have here,” he said.
