The 73rd match of IPL 2024 was an electrifying and thrilling face off between Sun Risers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
The match was the second qualifier, out of which the winning team would get to participate in the finals for the season, against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision which was probably influenced by the possibility of dew in the field in the second innings.

Addressing the fans in the post-match segment, the winning team captain Pat Cummins shared how he had the “dream experience” with the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad. He admired the team’s vibe, and praised Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Unadkat,among others.
“The boys have been fantastic all season. There’s a great vibe in the squad as you can see and the final was the goal at the start of the season and we made it. We knew our strength was our batting and we wouldn’t underestimate the experience we have in this squad, it’s a dream having Bhuvi, Nattu and Unadkat, makes my job easy.” Pat said.
The Australian captain shared how he was surprised with batting star Abhishek Sharma’s bowling. Abhishek took 1 wicket while bowling 4 overs in today’s match.
“That was a surprise, tried to stick one out of him with a couple of right-handers and he bowled beautifully and those two won it with their bowling in the middle overs. 170 was a tough chase and had we got a couple of wickets we knew we had a chance.”
Pat further appreciated the whole SRH management and people from the franchise.
“I will never pretend to work out the pitch and conditions ever, different every week. It is for the whole franchise, probably 60 or 70 of them who put their heart and soul into this and hopefully one more left.” He said.
How SRH Bowlers showed their own charm
SRH has been tagged as a “batsmen” team in the IPL 2024 season. With awe-inspiring performance from the opening batsmen, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma who had earlier set a new record to score the highest score in the powerplay, to other batsmen like Rahul Tripathi, the batting squad has not disappointed.
However, today it was SRH’s bowling that helped the team win the match against RR.
Shahbaz Ahmed became the Player Of The Match after taking 3 wickets.
Even Abhishek Sharma, the star opening batsman from SRH bowled 4 overs in today’s match and took 1 wicket. Abhishek however failed to perform in the batting area as he could only score 12 runs off of 5 bowls before losing his wicket.
