KhiladiX Legends Cricket Trophy launched in Ghaziabad

The KhiladiX Legends Cricket Trophy, a T20 tournament for former cricketers, was launched in a grand event at a city hotel in Ghaziabad. The inaugural edition of the tournament will be held from March 22 to March 30, 2023, at the VVIP Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Ghaziabad. The tournament is expected to draw a decent amount of crowd and generate a lot of excitement among cricket fans.

Format Explained

The tournament will feature six teams, each comprising former cricketers who have made a name for themselves in the sport. A total of 18 matches will be played over the course of the nine-day tournament, culminating in the finals. The teams will battle it out on the field to emerge as the champions of the KhiladiX Legends Cricket Trophy.

The KhiladiX Legends Cricket Trophy is an initiative of the Board for Veteran Cricket in India (BVCI) and is aimed at providing a platform for former cricketers to showcase their skills and stay connected with the sport they love. The tournament is also expected to provide a unique experience for cricket fans, who will get to witness their favorite players in action once again. With the best of the best former cricketers participating in the tournament, the KhiladiX Legends Cricket Trophy promises to be a thrilling and unforgettable event.

Several dignitaries attended the launch

The launch event was graced by the presence of Virender Sehwag, one of the most iconic cricketers in Indian history. Sehwag expressed his excitement about the tournament and wished all the participating teams the best of luck. Also present at the event were Mr. Praveen Tyagi, Acting President of the Board for Veteran Cricket in India (BVCI), Mr. Sudhir Kulkarni, Joint Secretary, BVCI, and Mr. Prasanna Venkateshan, Principal Consultant, 1stadia.

Addressing the Press present at the launch party, Praveen Tyagi, the Acting President of the BVCI said, “The Board for Veteran Cricketers in India has a sole objective of bringing senior and veteran cricket lovers under a single platform to play active and competitive cricket and with KhiladiX Legends Cricket Trophy 2023, we have drafted a world-class cricket tournament for fans that will showcase the best cricket talent from around the world.” 

Sehwag too spoke to the press and expressed his views. “It is fantastic what the BVCI is doing for former cricketers by providing them with an avenue to be in touch with the game they so love. These legends tournaments help us in various ways including extending our professional careers, catching up with old friends as well as helping us to keep fit. Most importantly, fans also get an opportunity to  catch up with their favorite cricketers and relive some magical moments that both have experienced together at some point in the past.” 

He further went on to add, “The cricket is also very competitive and I dare say some of us still have it to challenge even some of the present-day cricketers. I am confident that the Legends Cricket Trophy will provide wholesome entertainment to the fans of the game, particularly in India.”

The KhiladiX Legends Cricket Trophy is set to make waves not just in India but globally as well, with the tournament being broadcasted in over 30 countries. Cricket fans from around the world will be able to watch the former legends of the game in action, making it a truly global event.

The tournament will feature six franchisees, each vying for the top honors. The teams have been given unique names, with Chandigarh Champs, Nagpur Ninjas, Patna Warriors, Vizag Titans, Indore Knights, and Guwahati Avengers set to battle it out on the field.

Some of the most prominent former cricketers will be seen in action, including the legendary Virender Sehwag, who was present at the launch event. Other big names include Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Sanath Jayasuriya, Tilakaratne Dilshan, Nick Compton, Richard Levi, Isuru Udana, Praveen Kumar, Thisara Perera, and many more.
