Former Pakistani cricketer, Kamran Akmal, has stirred the pot ahead of the much-anticipated T20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan on Sunday. Akmal has questioned the credentials of India’s top-ranked T20I batsman, Suryakumar Yadav, highlighting his lack of runs against Pakistan in big matches.
Suryakumar Yadav has taken the T20I world by storm since his international debut in 2021. His innovative 360-degree batting and ability to score boundaries at will have propelled him to the number one spot in the ICC rankings. However, Akmal points out that this success hasn’t translated into matches against Pakistan.
In a statement to the Times of India, Akmal acknowledged the proven track record of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in high-pressure encounters against Pakistan. He then directed his attention towards Suryakumar, stating, “If he is No. 1, then he should come and score against Pakistan. He hasn’t scored big runs against Pakistan whenever he has come to bat.”
Akmal recognizes Suryakumar’s talent and class, but emphasizes the need for him to deliver against their arch-rivals.
Suryakumar has indeed struggled against Pakistan in the past. In four T20I matches against them, he has only managed 57 runs, with his highest score being a mere 18. This upcoming match presents a golden opportunity for him to silence his critics and prove his mettle on the biggest stage.
